Anxiety and the “Like” and “❤️” Factors

I decided from here on out, only I will know how many “Likes” my Insta posts receive. I retroactively removed all post likes whether there were 250 or 1000+  I’d do it on Facebook, too, but it’s not an option.✨Why? While the word anxiety is over-used, it is on the rise. My theory correlates with judgement, which is always rooted in comparison. ✨We have Gen Alpha & Gen Z who pose & mimic others they observe on social media. Then posting their own photos, each hopes to see the same response garnered by those they admire. But that rarely happens. So now these kids are not just judging themselves harshly — they feel as if the world is judging them and doesn’t “Like” them. This = Anxiety. ✨Today, self-esteem & self-respect are low. When self-respect drops the incidence of bad choices rises. ✨ Social media can be a fun, entertaining form of self-expression. It can even be lucrative. I’ve done plenty of campaigns with brands I admire and those brands can still request my private stats. ✨But here’s the thing: I will no longer enable anyone to consciously or unconsciously create comparisons to themselves, their posts, or their very existence via my “like” numbers. So, I’m removing this possibility. I wish I did it day one.✨ None of us have any idea as to how many actually see our posts. We don’t know if someone hits “like” because an image caught their attention; the caption resonated; or if they have a twitchy finger.✨I post photos of myself because my image is part of my “brand.” Yet, prior to my first modeling gig in 2016, I never posted my face on social media — though I’ve had business social accounts since ‘99.  I write for me. Blogging gets instant feedback. Books don’t. My posts also allow me to share my philosophy and they’re a support system for my clients in between private sessions.✨That’s it. Just telling you something I’ve been thinking about as I put my thoughts into action. SO it will only be me who knows when my first post gets a gazillion likes! 😉
