“Confidence is not age-dependent. It is a timeless reflection and understanding of the deep wisdom gained through years of experience.”
Self-image impacts every personal & work relationship we enter. It is built upon perceptions we consciously or unconsciously carry regarding ourselves and how we believe others perceive us. These perceptions form the foundation of our sense of, or lack of, self-esteem & self-respect. If your self-confidence could use a boost, my sessions will give you real-time, self-esteem shifts that can favorably adjust your perceptions fast. Below you’ll find a sample case study on how I helped my client to rebuild confidence and put aging and age-related concerns into better perspective
A Case Study in Overcoming Age-Related Concerns and Lack of Self-Confidence Regarding Employability
Background:
Robert, a 55-year-old former executive, sought talk therapy and hypnotherapy to address his growing concerns about his employability after being terminated from his executive role. The loss of his job had left him feeling disheartened, financially stressed, and worried about his future career prospects. He said that his self-confidence was at an all-time low. During the initial consultation, Robert shared his emotions and fears, providing valuable insight into his struggles. He expressed a sense of inadequacy, worry about his financial stability, and concerns about his age being a barrier to finding new employment. Robert acknowledged that his lack of confidence was hindering his ability to effectively conduct his job search and manage interviews, as well as hurting his openness to alternative career opportunities that Human Resources professionals were suggesting. He recognized the need to rebuild his confidence, eliminate or substantially reduce self-doubt and develop a positive mindset to navigate this challenging phase of his life.
Robert and I had two phone sessions during which we defined five objectives for our sessions:
1. Robert aims to regain confidence in his abilities and value as a professional.
2. Robert wants to stop believing that his age is a preventing him from finding new employment.
3. Robert desires to reduce and manage his financial stress and develop a positive mindset about his financial future.
4. Robert intends to improve his job search strategies, update his resume with my assistance, and research effective interview techniques, which we will practice in role play.
5. Robert aims to embrace change, explore new career opportunities, and develop a growth mindset.
With these goals identified, I outlined a go-forward plan for Robert to rebuild self-confidence. It involved decision and action-oriented discussion, coupled with subconscious motivational messaging via hypnosis.
– After addressing his initial doubts via two phone sessions, when he arrived for his first in-person visit, he was confident that he was in a comfortable environment, that fostered trust so he could express himself authentically.
– To address emotional healing necessary due to his termination, I guided Robert gently through both confrontational questioning and cognitive behavior techniques that would help him to gain a more balanced perspective and process the emotional distress resulting from his termination. I then added hypnotherapy sessions as well as relaxation exercises and visualization techniques he could use whenever he needed.
– Through guided discussions and hypnosis, I assisted Robert in identifying and challenging any negative beliefs about his age and employability. Robert embraced his years of experience and was encouraged to replace these beliefs with more empowering and realistic thoughts about the vast work experience he had developed throughout his career. Soon he began to see his value in a new light. This positive self-imagery was reinforced with hypnotherapy.
– During hypnosis sessions, I also provided Robert with a variety of positive affirmations and suggestions to boost his self-confidence and self-belief. These suggestions focused on his professional abilities, experience and value as a potential employee or consultant.
– I coached Robert to develop realistic strategies to manage his financial stress. This included practical techniques for budgeting and financial planning and also included visualization exercises to promote a positive mindset about his financial future, as well.
– I objectively reviewed Robert’s resume, assisted with updating it, outlined effective job search strategies and practiced his interview skills. Hypnosis was used to instill confidence and eliminate any self-doubt during the job search process.
– Robert was guided through visualization exercises to help him embrace the changes he was facing as he explored new career opportunities. With each session Robert was developing a growth mindset. Via our hypnosis sessions, Robert increasingly felt encouraged to view his situation as a chance for personal and professional growth.
– Robert is now happily employed in a new role. He still chooses to speak with me regularly because he enjoys discussing his career while also reinforcing his new open-mindedness with hypnotherapy. Robert also likes to have a sounding board to address any setbacks or concerns with more confrontational talk-therapy sessions. Techniques learned during hypnosis are now integrated into his daily life and they appear to be supportive to his ongoing success.
Robert is enthusiastic and says he experienced the following outcomes:
✔️ He feels increased self-confidence and self-belief in his professional abilities.
✔️ He has overcome age-related concerns and eliminated limiting beliefs about his employability.
✔️ With new practical skills, he has reduced his financial stress and improved his money management skills. He says he has a positive mindset about his financial future.
✔️ He has enhanced his job search skills, including resume writing, interview techniques, and effective job search strategies.
✔️ His new sense of adaptability coupled with an improved growth mindset, lead to exploration of new career opportunities. He is now enjoying a new role in a parallel industry. Valuing himself differently, he is also envisioning a consulting business in his future.
