We are what we think. Whenever I say this to my kids, it gets them as angry as it used to get me when my mother said it to me. But now I know it to be an accurate statement.
We reflect the images we hold of ourselves. We are who we think we are. We become who we think we can become. What we think about every day, our contemplations, make us who we are. Resumes are nice and we all like clothes. But no “things” define who we are. (You could read that “no thing” equals “nothing.”) It is our thoughts that make our realities.
All that exists is based on thought. And thoughts are real only in that what you think should happen is usually the result of how you thought something would. (With very tragically notable exceptions to this rule.) We’re our own best or worst judge and jury. Whether your future will be positive or negative, happy or unhappy, largely depends on how you choose to think it will be. Thoughts are seeds. Those that you pay attention to grow. Certainly, if you had a garden that you relied on for your food and welfare, if it was getting taken over by poison ivy—you’d stop it. Today is a good day for weeding out the poison vines and giving your optimism plenty of fresh soil to grow.
