Maybe We Need a Little More About Maybe

The other day I wrote about the power of adopting a “maybe” attitude. Many took this essay into different (yet totally valid) directions, though not of my original intention. I’ve learned this can certainly happen, and does happen, being limited to expressing oneself in 2,200 characters.

My point about “maybe” was not that I recommend it as a stalling excuse for use with others — though certainly sometimes that could be a good idea…or not.

Rather, my intended message was that maybe, if we considered that maybe more-than-a-singular-possibility exists for us to explore when encountering inevitable difficulties of life — bringing a “what else may be possible” attitude — then maybe we might elevate our ability to explore and find alternative solutions. (PS: OK. I admit that is a confusing long sentence so re-read as necessary!)

As in 99.9% of my essays, my focus is on me and you — and the choices we can make to make our lives maybe even better. My focus is not about others, controlling them, telling them what to do, manipulating or anything os such sort.

I believe if my life is going to change, the best possibility for positive changes, start when I focus on what I need to do … and doing it. When we are each taking responsibility for our own choices and ultimately our lives to the best of our abilities, two things happen (among many) rather quickly:  1) Our empathy for all rises as we realize how hard it is to take full responsibility for ourselves and we become a bit more understanding of how others might be struggling with personal responsibility as well, and 2) We simultaneously start to realize that others are likewise on their own journeys. We can listen and support but it’s up to each of us to learn and draw our own conclusions through trial and error. This is the way all wisdom is gained.
