The Inconvenience of Words

Words are inconvenient. They fill spaces and tell stories. Create smiles and trigger sadness. They might make others perceive us as brilliant or illiterate. They have the power to compel and repel. They inspire and motivate yet have the strength to take the wind out of our sails. They can open the door to peace or hell on earth. Words, no matter how many we know and try to use, are imperfect. Messages will be misconstrued, misinterpreted, misunderstood. Yet still, thoughtfully chosen with care, they can help lift others. One thing they will never do is serve as a substitute for action. Maybe for a little while they can serve our intentions, but ultimately it is actions that tell the truer story over words.
