The Benefits of Taking Micro Risks

I believe it’s very important to take risks or challenge ourselves by doing things we might not normally do. As I’ve said before the size of the risk is irrelevant. It’s that “just try it” factor. I’ve started doing doing a couple more things differently. For example, this week I bought a brown mascara. I’ve been wearing black mascara for as long as I can remember. At times I’ve worn blue, green or even burgundy but those were only one off temporary tries. Black mascara has been my staple go to for close to 50 years. So I bought this brown mascara and I love how it looks. It frankly makes my eyes look better. Maybe it’s an age thing. Maybe it’s a color thing I don’t know, but frankly it’s irrelevant because I feel like that change has made a big difference. I also decided to wear some blue nail polish. Again, a minor little tweak versus the very basic neutral. I always wear, but it has been fun.

So, again: The size of the risk doesn’t matter but the consequences do.  The risk shouldn’t be something that hurts you or others. Like I might want to know what it’s like to literally jump off the Brooklyn Bridge — but it’s not a risk I will ever take for any number of reasons.

I think getting comfortable with tiny risks makes us more comfortable with things that could really benefit our lives. Like reaching out to meet new people whoever they might be! Please share with me a little risk you can take. A harmless risk that just might add a little fun to your day.
