Someone once said, “What I like about black-and-white photographs is that they’re more like reading the book than seeing the movie.” With that quote in mind, I need to start with an apology for incorrectly crediting yesterday’s video— that topped 1,000 views— to the wrong Rich Kissi. Please help me correct my embarrassing error by checking out the right @RichKissi who took this photo as well. He deserves our recognition.
Now, let’s talk about the idea of a “black and white” world. When we really study a black and white photography image, we realize it’s really not just black and white at all! It is the many gray and silver tones between the extremes of black and white that captivate our attention. There is so much hiding in the grays. It is these nuances that create the depth and capture our wonder. The silver tones are what make us linger a bit longer, wanting to explore the image further.
While we’re certainly a colorful bunch at our ages due to the years behind us, we also carry those dimensions that are so unique to a beautiful black and white photo. And, as fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld said: “Black and white always looks modern, whatever that word means.”
Today, I cheer the beautiful magnitude of our range including all the silvers and grays we’ve developed between the extremes of our black and white.
