The Secret Benefits of Daydreaming

Edgar Allan Poe wrote, “Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night.” I love that quote because I never remember my night-time dreams, but I am absolutely a daydream believer. ✨ So let me remind you: If you’re ever feeling unsure about what to do next in your life, look to where your mind wanders for answers. ✨ Daydreaming is not just a space trip; it’s a powerful tool for understanding our deepest desires. The more we find ourselves lost in these imaginings — unless, of course, they’re completely disrupting any progress in our days — the more we may uncover something that we genuinely want to be doing while we can. Daydreaming is an essential way that our minds work out solutions to problems and refresh. Trust in your daydreams: They often hold secret keys that can unlock greater fulfillment in our daily lives. Don’t let the discouragement of others deter you from exploring your dreams. Turing daydreams into reality requires courage and can be a lonely process — but try allowing yourself to listen closely to that inner voice that may be urging you to try, stretch, and reach to make those dreams a reality. Scribble down and doodle whatever comes into your mind. Make flow charts. Do whatever you need to do to get your ideas onto paper — moving them from your mind into a plan you can look at and percolate. And, if you’re not even sure if you have an inner voice — let me tell you what it’s saying. It’s whispering very softly, “Try again tomorrow.”
