A delay in getting what we want is not a denial. Instead, I prefer to think of delays as life’s way of aligning timing, circumstances, and preparation along with my readiness for the magnitude of what’s coming my way. Sometimes, what feels like “not yet” is actually a quiet message that says: “Dian, you’re not quite prepared.” So I pause, I regroup, and I gain strength, wisdom, and maybe a new perspective — while I try to educate myself in any and every way possible.
I’ve learned not to mistake stillness for stagnation. A seed beneath the soil isn’t doing nothing; it’s gathering everything it needs before it dares to break through. In those waiting seasons, I sharpen my skills, soften my fears, and grow into the person capable of holding the very thing I’m praying for. Because what good is a blessing if I arrive too small to carry it?
All of this helps to ensure that when what I’ve asked for does arrive, I can receive it fully — and that I also have the skills, talent, and energy to nurture and sustain it. The delay, then, becomes a gift in disguise, a stretch of time handed to me on purpose, shaping my hands to hold more and my heart to want it wisely.
So the lesson is this: Patience is not passive waiting; it’s active trust. It’s choosing to believe that what’s meant for me is still on its way, and that every pause is preparing me to meet it ready, willing, and whole.
