Being the Boss of Your Life Starts with Radical Honesty

If we want to take charge of our lives, we all need to keep honing our personalities, move our ideals and hopes ahead, fight for our dreams and live our lives around our personal purpose. Our ideal life is not something we “find” but something we “create.” The business of being a person is to take our existence and organize it around our plans and purpose so that we create the life we want to live.

Here are 4 steps for building your greatness.

1.         Imagine what you want with the power of your most vivid imagination. Let it draw you in, inspire your creativity, and guide your actions. Be bold and envision yourself facing challenges, being knocked down, and rising victoriously in a way only you can. Practice that victory pose (Yes, literally! Research confirms doing it supports success plans!)

2.         If you want to be something different than what you are, start acting the part by learning as much as you can so you can start doing more of whatever it is that you want to do. Decide. Learn. Act. Learn more. Act. Repeat.

3.         Be radically self-honest. I want to play guitar like Eric Clapton. I don’t practice much. So, I can enjoy playing guitar – but I won’t be playing Madison Square Garden!

4.         Put on your super suit. Greatness takes faith, courage, and the ability to ignore ignorance, neglect, negativity, and disrespect from others regarding your ideas.

Believe in the positive impact of your actions, not just for yourself but for others. If you think this sounds grandiose, remember: Because you are working to fulfill your dreams, you will change others simply because you’ll be more pleasant to be around. Even a moderate dose of the above will set you on a new journey. When we chase pleasure alone, we won’t necessarily win. When we live to make ourselves more extraordinary, every day we push forward is another win.
